This series uses only the first six notes that students learn as a beginner. The first notes are Bb to G concert and each composition uses only whole, half, quarter and eighth notes. All selections from the series are fun and educational. Only basic instrumentation is required of the band, for a concert performance.
SILLY SAMBA
This latin style piece is very popular with young bands. It can be performed with basic percussion or the Director may choose to add extra percussion for a more effective performance. A fun piece for all.

This series features folksongs from the Atlantic Provinces. Many selections are from the Helen Creighton collection of Maritime folksongs and are arranged for young Band by Ron MacKay.
I'LL GIVE MY LOVE AN APPLE
I'll Give My Love An Apple is said to be Helen Creighton's favourite folksong. She collected it from Dennis Smith of Chezzetcook, Nova Scotia. It is a riddle ballad with a lyrical melody. The selection is good for the developmnet of tone, phrasing and balance. A good piece for a quiet change in your concert.

CHERRY TREE CAROL
Cherry Tree Carol is collected by Helen Creighton from William Riley of Cherrybrook, Nova Scotia. The carol is a song in which the cherry tree brings to light the divinity of the child that Mary has to bear. The simple beauty of this carol allows its performance at any time of the year.
